Don Esindu
The inspiration behind “To Know Purpose” c.2023 was to explore several local values appearing in light and shadow. To understand, observe and depict the underlying volumes of folds of striped fabric as the forms turn and recede in space. This work of Art is unique to me because it presents an insight and sheds light on an appreciation for the mundane. One observes local value changes through chiaroscuro, composition, and value contrast and further explores how humdrum objects can carry a very intentional and timely purpose.
Nigerian-American, Florida-based artist Don Esindu has been creating art pieces, mostly portraits since he was thirteen. He enjoys using charcoal and oil paints in making realistic portraits of people as he interprets a particular essence of their life. He uses dramatic lighting to illuminate a deeper meaning that explores what is happening beneath the surface. He is inspired by the works of Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, also known as Caravaggio. While attaining his MFA in Painting from the Academy of Art University, Esindu’s Art seeks to explore the relationship between intention and attention in people.
