Joshua Aaron Benito
I'm Joshua Aaron Benito, a California based Filipino-American cinematographer, operator, and first assistant cameraman. I was always the type of kid to just keep my head down and just do things by the books. There came a point where I just felt burnt out and wanted to do something more. I found myself in a multimedia art class back in high school and started to develop a passion for filmmaking.
I ended up committing to the Academy of Art University in San Francisco in 2018 where I was able to professionally learn and train to be a DP, operator, and 1st AC. It was also during this time that I fully started to engrain myself in the world of filmmaking. I found myself so fascinated with all facets of the visual art, but more importantly I found the beautiful human aspects to it. From all the different talented walks of life you are able to meet, to all the different stories you get to hear and see, I found myself not only wanting to experience more, but be able to tell these stories through the art.
I don't know everything, but I'm stubborn enough to lose sleep trying to figure it out. I'm my own worst enemy at the end of the day because I won't rest until something is done to the best of my ability. I give that credit to my hard working family who started out as immigrants, then became blue-collar workers. I wouldn't have been afforded the opportunities and blessings I have now if it wasn't for them.
I am truly at my happiest when I get to work around other creative minds or at peace outdoors on my off days. Whether it's on set or in the field, there is one thing you can count on me having, a camera.
